Support Accountant – Financial Planning

Location: Melton, Suffolk

Pay Rate: £19.00 per hour PAYE

Contract: 3 months

Hours: 37 hours per week

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days per week on-site

## The Opportunity

LYNX Employment Services are recruiting an experienced Support Accountant to join a Financial Planning team within a local authority in Suffolk.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with strong management accounting, budgeting and financial reporting experience to take on a varied role supporting Finance Business Partners and service managers.

You'll help maintain effective financial management across a range of service areas, providing practical support with budgets, forecasting, financial reporting and year-end activities.

Previous local government experience is desirable, but not essential. Candidates from the NHS, education, housing associations and the private sector are encouraged to apply where they have relevant management accounting experience.

Key Responsibilities

Support Finance Business Partners with revenue and capital budget monitoring.

Assist with annual budget setting and financial forecasting.

Prepare and analyse financial reports, identifying variances and emerging budget pressures.

Support month-end and year-end accounting activities, including working papers and reconciliations.

Provide financial advice and guidance to service managers and budget holders.

Assist with the review and setting of fees and charges.

Support Government returns, statutory reporting and financial data collection.

Maintain accurate financial records, including grants and supporting documentation.

Assist with staffing budgets, reserves and overhead allocations.

Support financial systems administration and reporting improvements.

Help non-financial colleagues understand budgets and financial information.

## What We're Looking For

We're seeking a capable finance professional who can quickly settle into an established team and provide reliable, hands-on accounting support.

Essential

requirements

Previous experience in an accounting or management accounting role.

Practical experience of budget monitoring, financial reporting and reconciliations.

Good understanding of accounting principles and budgetary control.

Experience supporting budget holders or non-financial managers.

Confident Excel skills and experience using financial systems.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to explain financial information clearly to colleagues.

AAT qualification with relevant post-qualification experience, or significant demonstrable experience at a similar level.

Desirable experience:

Local authority or wider public-sector finance.

Financial forecasting and budget setting.

Month-end and year-end accounts preparation.

Producing management reports for senior stakeholders.

Supporting or training non-financial colleagues.
