Senior Java Engineer

This role at SIXT is pivotal for shaping the future of mobility. You will be crafting a cloud-native microservices platform that brings excitement and seamless experiences to users across Europe, covering everything from car sharing to micro-mobility services. We're looking for someone who thinks beyond the code, partnering closely with Product and the business to shape the right solution through agentic-native development. YOUR ROLE AT SIXT

• You design and ship backend Java services that thousands of customers depend on every day
• You own customer-facing distributed systems end to end, from understanding the real problem behind a request to running the fix in production
• You bring engineering judgment into every conversation with Product Owners and stakeholders, shaping the solution instead of just executing it
• You design and build the services, features, and tooling that power our platform, from microservices to APIs to the tools your own team relies on
• You build it, you run it, you own it: full end-to-end responsibility, including on-call, for building, testing, deploying, and monitoring your service
• You work agent-first by default: implementation runs through agents, judgment and ownership stay with you

YOUR SKILLS MATTER

• Experience You have development experience in Java, and Spring Boot is a must. Familiarity with Go is beneficial
• Architecture You are experienced in microservices and event-driven architectures, and know how to design for reliability, scalability, idempotency, and long-term maintainability
• Data Stores You have worked with PostgreSQL, JPA/Hibernate, Flyway, Redis, and Kafka, and understand how to choose the right persistence and messaging pattern for the problem
• Operations You are comfortable owning services in production, improving them through observability, metrics, alerting, CI/CD, and Kubernetes-based operations
• AI-Native Engineering You run agentic workflows end to end: orchestrating agents, judging their output, and tuning the eval loops that keep quality high without reviewing every line yourself
• Curiosity You're genuinely curious about the customer's problem, not just the code. You move comfortably across the stack, translate technical trade-offs into plain business language, and treat a great product conversation as seriously as a great pull request
