Assistant Accountant

Job Description: Accounts Senior / Accounts Preparation

Contract: Temporary, approximately 3 months

Start Date: ASAP, ideally Monday or the following week

Salary: Dependent on experience

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Flexibility: Flexible working hours with core hours of 10am to 4pm

Overview

We are recruiting for an experienced Accounts Senior or Accounts Preparation professional to support a busy accountancy practice during its peak period.

The ideal candidate will be part qualified or qualified by experience, with a strong background in practice and the ability to independently prepare accounts to trial balance stage.

The practice is open to considering a qualified accountant, an experienced part qualified candidate or someone looking to progress from a junior to a more senior accounts preparation role.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing accounts from incomplete records through to trial balance stage
• Working with client accounting records, primarily using Sage
• Preparing year end accounts for a varied portfolio of clients
• Reviewing and reconciling financial information
• Supporting the wider team during a particularly busy period
• Assisting with personal tax returns where required, although the main focus will be accounts preparation
• Working independently to manage workloads and meet deadlines

Experience Required

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice is essential
• Strong accounts preparation experience, ideally to trial balance stage
• Part qualified, fully qualified or qualified by experience
• Confident working with incomplete accounting records
• Sage experience is highly desirable
• Knowledge of IRIS, Xero or QuickBooks would be advantageous
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Systems

• IRIS: Main accounting software used by the practice
• Sage: Widely used by clients, including one of the practice's largest clients
• Xero: Used by a number of clients
• QuickBooks: Used by a small number of clients

Contract Details

This is a temporary position expected to last approximately three months, covering the busy period into January and potentially mid February. The practice is looking for someone who can contribute immediately, with minimal training required.

There is currently no expectation of a permanent opportunity at the end of the assignment.

Ideal Candidate: An experienced practice accountant who is confident preparing accounts to trial balance stage, has strong Sage knowledge and can hit the ground running.
