Job Responsibilities

• Lead and support the preparation and publication of the Statement of Accounts in line with statutory deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with local authority accounting standards and relevant financial regulations.
• Oversee year‑end processes and provide technical accounting expertise.
• Review and strengthen financial controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Liaise with internal departments and external auditors during the accounts preparation process.
• Provide expert financial advice to senior leadership within the Resources directorate.
• Identify and resolve complex accounting issues to support timely financial reporting.
• Contribute to improving financial reporting processes and procedures.

Person Specification

Must‑Have

• Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent).
• Extensive experience in local government finance and statutory accounts preparation.
• Strong technical knowledge of local authority accounting requirements and reporting standards.
• Proven experience delivering Statement of Accounts within strict statutory deadlines.
• Experience working in an interim or project‑based finance role.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.

Nice‑to‑Have

• Previous experience working within a London Borough or similar local authority.
• Experience managing external audit processes.
• Strong stakeholder management and senior leadership engagement skills.
• Experience improving or streamlining financial processes.
