Investigations Analyst (Compliance)
Role Description & Overview
London, UK | Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote) | Full-time
About PAIO
PAIO is a London-based, FCA-regulated provider of financial solutions for businesses of all kinds. We’re building a fresh approach to digital financial services, free from outdated legacy systems, with speed, security, competitiveness and compliance at the core of everything we do.
Our services help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in both online and offline markets collect funds in local accounts and make seamless global payments. For businesses with higher transaction volumes, we design customised solutions tailored to their specific corporate needs.
The Role
We’re looking for an Investigations Analyst to join our compliance team. You’ll investigate suspected financial crime escalated from transaction monitoring, screening and staff referrals, and decide whether a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) should be filed with the National Crime Agency (NCA).
You’ll report to the Investigations Team Lead, with a dotted line to the MLRO.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate escalated alerts, internal referrals and law enforcement requests end to end, within agreed SLAs
- Analyse customer profiles, fund flows, counterparties, source of funds and source of wealth
- Carry out open-source and adverse media research, UBO and corporate structure analysis, and network analysis
- Identify financial crime typologies such as layering, money mule activity, trade-based money laundering, fraud and sanctions evasion
- Write clear case files and recommend an outcome: no further action, enhanced monitoring, customer exit or SAR
- Draft SARs for MLRO review
- Share emerging trends with the transaction monitoring and onboarding teams
- Support quality assurance, internal audits and FCA reviews
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in financial crime investigations, AML or transaction monitoring within a bank, EMI, payment institution or fintech
- Hands‑on experience investigating complex cases and drafting SARs or internal suspicious activity reports
- Strong knowledge of UK AML/CTF and sanctions regulations, including POCA 2002, MLR 2017, JMLSG guidance and FCA requirements
- Solid understanding of money laundering, fraud and sanctions evasion typologies
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to follow fund flows and connect information from multiple sources
- Excellent written English and the ability to produce clear, well‑evidenced case files
Nice to Have
- Experience with investigation, screening or network analysis tools
- Professional certification (e.g. ICA Diploma in AML or Financial Crime Compliance, CAMS)
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Opportunities for professional growth and career development
- A dynamic and collaborative working environment
- Exposure to international compliance practices and financial crime prevention
Work Format
- Location: London, UK
- Hybrid working model: 4 days in the office and 1 day remotely per week
If you’re an experienced investigator who wants to make a real impact in the fight against financial crime, we’d love to hear from you.
