Finance Director
Role Description & Overview
A growing MGA and insurance broking business that has recently secured investment is seeking an experienced Finance Director to join its leadership team and support the next phase of its growth.
Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the board and investors, you will take ownership of the finance function, developing the financial infrastructure, controls and reporting capabilities required to scale the business.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional with previous start-up experience to help shape the financial strategy of an ambitious insurance business following a significant investment milestone.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the finance function, establishing robust financial processes, systems and controls to support the business as it scales.
- Oversee management accounts, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management, providing clear financial insight to the CEO, board and investors.
- Develop financial models, business plans and performance metrics to support growth strategy, investment decisions and profitability.
- Manage relationships with investors, banks, auditors and external advisers, supporting ongoing investor reporting and future funding
requirements.
- Provide commercial oversight of MGA and broking operations, including revenue, commission structures, underwriting performance and business profitability.
- Ensure appropriate financial governance and compliance with relevant FCA
requirements, statutory reporting and client money obligations.
Essential
Requirements
- Fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a senior finance role within a start-up, early-stage or high-growth business, ideally having built or developed a finance function.
- Strong insurance sector experience, preferably within an MGA or insurance brokerage.
- Proven expertise across financial planning, management reporting, cash flow forecasting and financial controls.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to partner with senior leadership and investors to drive business performance.
- A hands-on approach, with the ability to balance strategic financial leadership with day-to-day operational requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as Finance Director, CFO or Financial Controller within an MGA, broker or specialist insurance business.
- Experience supporting a business through investment, fundraising or a period of significant growth.
- Understanding of delegated underwriting arrangements, insurer capacity agreements and insurance distribution models.
- Knowledge of FCA
requirements, client money regulations and insurance intermediary financial obligations.
The Individual
The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial and commercially focused finance leader with a proven track record in start-up or high-growth environments. Having recently secured investment, the business is entering an exciting stage of development and requires someone who can translate that investment into sustainable growth, building the financial infrastructure and reporting capabilities needed for the next phase.
You will be comfortable operating in a hands-on capacity, working closely with the CEO, board and investors, and will have the vision and experience to help shape the future direction of the business
